lyrics

The songbird wakes me this morning,
I hear her from the sky above
Lying on my back, tired and weary
The dew wraps me like a glove

Soon to arise I stretch my legs
June is it? Or maybe it's May?
I hear my bird, early, singing
Each morning of every day

Upright I walk to the trellis
Flowering vines growing impossibly high
Like laces through shoes, climbing, knotting
The tangled mess what kind of fool am I?

There she was, the songbird called
Was giving me hope, breaking down my walls
She was there every day, with her melody
Singing to me reminding me how to be
My songbird, her melody
Cried out, only for me

My balance is off when I look up to her
So I keep my head down low
I let out a cry that I know will drown the song
Have to cover my ears pretend nothing's wrong
While knowing nothing is right
Pretending nothing is wrong

There she was, the songbird called
Was giving me hope, breaking down my walls
She was there every day, with her melody
Singing to me reminding me how to be
My songbird, her melody
Cried out, only for me

I heard that bird, early, singing
Each morning of every day
of every day
